Der Zweck der Stiftung ist die Leistung von finanzieller Hilfe für die Ausbildung von Kindern, Jugendlichen und jungen Erwachsenen aus finanzschwachen Verhältnissen, in den Gründungskantonen der Schweizerischen Eidgenossenschaft, Uri, Schwyz und Unterwalden (bestehend aus Obwalden und Nidwalden). Die Stiftung hilft auf Antrag den Betroffenen direkt durch einmalige oder wiederkehrende Unterstützungsbeiträge, Übernahme von Ausbildungskosten, Kosten für Fachliteratur und Ausbildungsmaterial, Beiträge an Fahrtkosten, Unterkunft und Verpflegung für Ausbildungen ausserhalb des Wohnkantons oder mittels zinslosen, nach Erwerbsaufnahme rückzahlbaren Ausbildungsdarlehen, die Rückzahlungsraten und -dauer abgestimmt auf die persönlichen Verhältnisse nach Erwerbsaufnahme. Der Stiftungsrat kann im eigenen Ermessen auf die teilweise oder vollständige Rückzahlung von Ausbildungsdarlehen verzichten. Die Stiftung kann, analog Absatz 2, in gleicher Weise Weiterbildungen von Anspruchsberechtigten gemäss Abs. 1 unterstützen oder finanzieren. Die Stiftung kann auch andere Institutionen und Aktionen Dritter mit der genannten Zielsetzung unterstützen.
