Die Stiftung bezweckt: 1) Ermöglichung einer dauerhaften Gedenk- und Erinnerungsarbeit. Sie will einen Beitrag leisten, das Gedächtnis an das Schicksal der Flüchtlinge, insbesondere der jüdischen Flüchtlinge, im Zweiten Weltkrieg zu bewahren. 2) Förderung von Auseinandersetzung mit der Schweizer Flüchtlingspolitik und deren Folgen während des Zweiten Weltkriegs. 3) Würdigung von einstigen Opfern sowie Anerkennung von Bürgern mit Zivilcourage am Grenzort Riehen und im Dreiländereck. 4) Aufklärung und Sensibilisierung für Antisemitismus, Anti-lsraelismus und Holocaust, damals und heute. 5) Bereitstellung einer geeigneten Infrastruktur als Ort für Selbstreflexion, Besinnung und Empathie sowie für Verarbeitung der eigenen Vergangenheit. Zur Umsetzung des Stiftungszwecks betreibt die Stiftung insbesondere eine Gedenkstätte im ehemaligen Weichenwärterhauses in Riehen an der Schweizer Grenze zu Deutschland. Die Gedenkstätte soll dabei sowohl für eigene Veranstaltungen, wie Führungen, Fachvorträge und Ausstellungen als auch für Fremdanlässe gegen Miete zur Verfügung stehen. Die Arbeit der Gedenkstätte kann von einem Fachkuratorium u. a. aus Historikern und Zeitzeugen begleitet werden. Die Stiftung ist politisch und konfessionell neutral. Die Stiftung hat gemeinnützigen Charakter und verfolgt keine kommerziellen Zwecke und erstrebt keinen Gewinn.
